How it works - Monthly Instrument Hire

Minimum Hire Period
The minimum hire period is three months, apart from pianos & full size cellos which have a four month minimum hire period. After (or during) the hire period the instrument can be returned free of charge. There are no additional costs.
Length of Hire Period
After the minimum hire period has passed, you can choose to return the instrument or keep it as long as you wish and continue making the monthly payments.
Returns & Cancellation
All returns are FREE of charge. We use Parcelforce for most items with drop off locations across the UK. Larger items, such as cellos & pianos will be collected from your address. Original packaging must be kept for the return journey.
Delivery
Our delivery charge is £3.95 for most items, and from £8.95 for large items such as cellos and keyboards. Returns are free of charge.
Future Date Deliveries
If you would prefer to book your instrument delivery for a future date to coincide with the school term start, or booked music lessons, then you can add your preferred delivery date towards the bottom of the checkout page. Simply add your preferred date to the 'Order notes/Delivery Requests' box at the bottom of the checkout.
How it works
- Checkout out as normal, adding your preferred delivery date towards the bottom of the checkout page in the 'Order notes/Delivery Requests'
- Your initial payment will be taken on the day you order by Direct Debit or credit\debit card.
- You will receive an automated email to confirm your order, and confirm your delivery date.
- Once you order is confirmed, your second payment date will be deferred to be one month after the delivery date

Maintenance
All instruments benefit from on going care. There are a few simple care and maintenance procedures here that will help minimise any problems you may experience.
Repairs
If your instrument needs repairing during the duration of your agreement, then please contact us.  We do offer a free onsite repair service, or we will arrange for your instrument to come back to us for the repair.
Consumable Accessories
Items such as, but not limited to, strings, reeds, cleaning items etc are not covered under our free repair service. But, you can purchase these items through us at a discounted rate. For help and advice please contact us.
Loss & Theft
If the instrument has been lost or stolen, this must be reported as such to the Police. The relevant incident number must then be passed to Musical Instrument Hire Co. We will arrange a replacement instrument for you. An insurance excess charge of £45 is payable.
Insurance
During the duration of the hire agreement the instrument is insured by us. If your instrument has been lost, stolen, damaged beyond repair an insurance charge of £45 is payable.
Can I purchase my instrument?
In most cases yes. You just need to let us know and we’ll do the rest. Up to a maximum of six months hire fee contributes towards the purchase price.
Some instruments, such as junior violins and cellos are not available to purchase. Option To Purchase
If I have swapped my instrument can I still use the Option to Purchase?
Yes, no matter when you change your instrument the payments made to date (maximum of six payments) can still be used to contribute towards the instrument.
Payment & Security
Our checkout is secure and uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology, and all our payment gateways use military grade encryption and are regulated by the FCA.
Payment can be made using Direct Debit or credit/debit card. The payment will be taken monthly until the instrument has been returned.
Changing your mind/size change
At any point during the duration of your hire agreement you may need to change your instrument. Possibly because the next size up is needed, or simply a change of mind. Please use this contact form, and we will be in touch to arrange this for you.

How it works - One off event hire equipment
You will find all the information for our weekly equipment hire below, hopefully everything you need is here, but please do contact us if you need any more help. We are always happy to assist and answer any questions you have.
Hire Period
All one off and event hire equipment is charged weekly. This allows ample time for equipment to be delivered and checked prior to being used. Hire periods can only start and finish on a weekday. Dates are selected on the individual product pages.
Returns
All returns are processed with Parcelforce. We allow a three day period, after the selected hire period ends, to return equipment to us. All items will come with self adhesive returns labels. Most items can be returned over the Post Office counter, however, large and bulky items such as PA equipment can only be returned directly through a Parcelforce Depot.

Delivery
We use Parcelforce for all deliveries. Your equipment will arrive on the first day of your hire agreement, and on the day of delivery you will receive a one hour delivery slot from Parcelforce directly.
Collection
Equipment can be collected from us (Melton Mowbray - LE14 4SZ) Simply check this option during checkout.
Loss & Theft
If the equipment has been lost or stolen, this must be reported as such to the Police. The relevant incident number must then be passed to Musical Instrument Hire Co. In this instance, you will forfeit your security deposit.
All equipment that is lost or stolen and not reported to the Police and therefore has no incident number, will deem the hirer liable for the full replacement cost of the equipment.
Damage
We understand equipment will suffer from a few marks over time, which will be considered fair wear and tear. Damage becomes chargeable in the following circumstances.
- Paint or lacquer is damaged, revealing the surface underneath
- Part of the equipment no longer functioning as a result of damage
- Damage has caused part of the equipment to separate, or detach
All our equipment is checked for damage before it leaves us, generally there is no significant damage to record, but if there is we will enclose a copy confirming this with the equipment. It is advisable to check equipment once your receive you item.
If you believe the equipment has been damaged in transit, then please let us know within 24 hours as per the terms and conditions.
Payment & Security
All event and backline equipment will have a security deposit taken during checkout, this will be returned to you once the equipment has been returned and delivered safely back to us.
